How to book a workshop
We offer our workshops to schools and communities within the Vancouver Coastal Health local catchment area – Vancouver, Richmond, and the North Shore. Approximately 400 workshops are presented each year, spanning across four main themes, each geared to a different grade from 7 to 10. This includes Peer Pressure for Grade 7s; Healthy Relationships, Healthy Sexuality for Grade 8s; Safer Sexy for Grade 9s; and Gender Stereotypes for Grade 10s.

These workshops are facilitated by trained volunteers called Youth Educators. Youth Educators, young people aged 18 –24 who represent the cultural diversity of the Lower Mainland, approach these topics from the perspective of older peers and act as positive role models.

Workshop Overview

Peer Pressure (for Grade 6/7 students)
Interactive activities exploring how peer and social pressures can relate to making healthy decisions. It also helps to identify how they can develop their personal strengths to identify and manage potential pressure situations.

Healthy Relatioships, Healthy Sexuality (for Grade 8s)
Interactive activities exploring healthy and unhealthy qualities in a relationship, with an understanding of personal boundaries and how to take care of oneself. Discussion around communication, consent and risk reduction methods (such as condoms) are also included.

Safer Sexy (for Grade 9s)
Safer Sexy focuses on issues and situations that make it difficult to negotiate safer sex and to do what’s good for oneself. It also explores the reasons why people become sexually active, the potential emotional and physical consequences, and risk reduction methods.

Gender StereoTYPOS (for Grade 10s)
We explore the social constructs of gender norms and how it can influence – both positively and/or negatively – the ability to make healthy decisions for themselves.
